MORAVIA - Milliard Fillmore earned his place in history as the 13th president of the United States and leading the country during a difficult period of history prior to the Civil War. For some 40 years, the historical society has been celebrating the president's birthday, but generally in a fairly quiet way, but this year it was decided that it was time to give the day a little more fanfare. From the balloons to the vivid happy birthday signs, the historical society house looked every bit the part of a place ready for a birthday celebration. From a marble table that stood in the White House to the family Bible to a silk shawl given to Fillmore's wife Abigail (also a Moravia native), by the emperor of China. Minnie Smith fell in love during World War I but never married A woman who was born during the reign of Queen Victoria and has seen three centuries and two world wars is celebrating her 110th birthday. Her nieces Josepha Strange, 85, and Sylvia Bond, 80, said their aunt started working as a maid at the age of 14 in 1912, the year Titanic sank on its maiden voyage. Miss Smith fell in love with an Australian soldier called Noddy who came to stay at a house where she was working during World War I, but as her mother disapproved of the relationship the soldier left after the war, her nieces said. During World War II, at the age of 41, Miss Smith moved in with a fellow maid Edith Rixon and the two then served the Salvation Army. More Birthday News

Back in those days, racers started in rows, five seconds apart, and Al was on the forth row. In 1959 the promoter of the race at Middletown, New Jersey, approached Al and asked if he would be the starter. Al started all the races at Middletown and continued to race at other tracks up and down the East Coast. Al’s starter outfits were custom made by his loving wife Julia and had AMA or WERA embroidered on the shirts, front and back. Al Wilcox is celebrating his 89th birthday at home in Trenton, New Jersey. He starts practicing with his flags in his backyard soon and will be back at Summit Point Raceway for his 49th year as a starter to flag the WERA races and Roger Lyle’s Motorcycle Xcitement Track Days. HOLLYWOOD superstar Sir Anthony Hopkins brought a touch of glamour to Port Talbot as he staged his 70th birthday bash in his home town on New Year’s Eve. Fifty of Taibach-born Sir Anthony’s closest childhood friends attended the glittering celebration at the Margam Park Orangery, where they rubbed shoulders with a host of the Oscar-winning actor’s showbiz pals, including actor Michael Sheen and Graham Jenkins, brother of the late Richard Burton. Organised by Sir Anthony’s wife, Stella Arroyave, the party saw the Orangery lavishly transformed to resemble the great hall of a medieval castle. Clive Thompson was one of 30 members of the Pelenna Valley Male Voice Choir, who performed at the event, greeting guests as they arrived with a mixture of Welsh hymns, folk songs and show tunes. Coun Anthony Taylor, Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, was one of a host of local dignitaries invited. A yoga demonstration will be held at the Telugu Kala Samithi, Adliya, on Friday to mark the 89th birthday of world-renowned yoga teacher Dr B K S Iyengar. Mr Ramulu has taught more than 9,000 students in more than 20 years in Bahrain and India. He is currently teaching at the Kerala Catholic Association, Segaiya, and the Telugu Kala Samithi, Adliya. Born on December 14, 1918, in India, Mr Iyengar is the founder of Iyengar Yoga. He is considered one of the foremost yoga teachers in the world and has been practising and teaching yoga for more than 60 years.
